Asier Mediavilla Intxausti, an expert of TECNALIA Research & Innovation (BERTIM coordinating Partner), presented the achievements of BERTIM project during the 1st “BIM and energy performance of buildings” conference, 25th of June in Brussels, Belgium.
The event, organized in Brussels by QUALICHECK platform as a result of an EU project, addressed how BIM tool can help to achieve more energy efficient buildings and main challenges to integrate BIM with energy simulation and compliance checking activities.
BERTIM applies BIM and simulation for renovation of existing buildings, so the presentation was strictly related to the event's core assumptions.
The market uptake of BIM (Building Information Modelling) is rapidly growing in nearly all European countries and one can assume that this trend will continue and even accelerate in the coming years.
In practice, there was until recently in most countries little to no attention for BIM as a support tool for the regulatory assessment of the energy performance of buildings. A smart use of BIM can be a win-win situation for both areas, whereby there surely are still several bottlenecks and challenges ahead of us.
